The Purpose

The mission of the Friends of the Denver Fire Department is to support Denver’s Fire Department by providing public education, through efforts to improve firefighter safety and quality of life by furnishing direct resources to meet fire fighter needs thereby improving public safety in the City and County of Denver. Please visit fdfd.org for more information.

Recent Success

  • To complement the $2 million worth of much needed equipment upgrades secured through federal grant sources in 2012-2013, the Department was awarded a grant in April 2013 to purchase 30 chemical/biological suits.  These multi-threat protective suits meet NFPA 1994 Class 2 and NFPA 1992 for protection against chemical warfare agents as well as toxic industrial chemicals. These state of the art suits are washable and reusable.
  • Private funders helped match the funds needed to sustain the second year of the Denver Fire Wellness Initiative.  The program was expanded to bring on board a firefighter-specific physical therapist whose rehabilitation training is geared toward firefighter-specific injuries.  In addition, the wellness program has been more proactively educating the department about how to avoid injuries and maintain optimal health.
  • FDFD has continued its efforts to maximize support for other nonprofit organizations in the community who serve public safety functions through collaborative fundraising events including:
    • Partnering with the Denver Fire Fighters Burn Foundation on the Fore Fire Golf Tournament in May and the Fit For Fire 5K run in the fall.
    • The Public Safety Luncheon in October that benefitted The Denver Police Foundation, The Friends of the Denver Fire Department, The Denver Sheriff Orphan Fund, The Denver Justice Council, Metro Denver Crime Stoppers and Denver Health Foundation.
