The primary mission of the Denver Fire Department/DEN Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) Training Academy is to provide comprehensive training in the area of aircraft fire and rescue operations. The initial ARFF certification includes a 40-hour program encompassing both classroom and live-fire training evolution designed to meet the requirements both NFPA 1003 and FAA FAR Part 139 involving aircraft rescue and fire fighting. course work covers such topics as aircraft familiarization, personnel safety, communications, use of firefighting appliances, extinguishing agents, aircraft evacuation, firefighting operations, adapting/use of structural equipment for ARFF, cargo hazards, dangerous goods, and more. The DEN facility is updating it’s training grounds and building a new aircraft fire simulator scheduled to open in the spring of 2019.
