Fire Apparatus Units & Opticom Codes

  All DFD vehicles equiped with an Opticom to control traffic signals must have a unique identification code. This is done with a set of 4 rotary configuration switches located at the end of all 3M Opticoms. (See Fig. 1)

                  From left to right looking at the end of the unit the switches are   labeled as follows: 1 = Class – Always set to Number 1 for Emergency Vehicles (Top Priority) 2 = 1’s – Used to set Vehicle Type 3 = 10’s – First Number of Vehicle ID 4 = 100’s – Second Number of Vehicle ID  

Opticom Rotary Configuration Legend (Fig. 2)

                  A rotary switch configuration legend label is located on the rear aluminum plate. (fig. 2) Class – Always 1 1’s – 0=Engine, 1=Truck, 2= Special Rigs, 5=Chief 10’s & 100’s = 2 Digits of Vehicle ID   Use the chart below to configure Opticoms for Denver Fire Department Apparatus only.
