After nearly 38-years of dedicated service to the Citizens of the City and County of Denver, Technician / Firefighter Doug Mangels is retiring. Doug spent many years fighting fires in the inner city and serving the Five-Points community at Engine Co. 3. In the next chapter of his career, Doug spent many years at DEN / DIA, where he built a progressive, state of the art ARFF training program. Subsequently, Doug trained thousands of firefighters all over the world in proper and professional ARFF Operations. Doug is an internationally recognized subject matter expert on ARFF Operations. Doug has spent the last part of his career with us as a member of the Fire Dispatch Unit Team. Doug’s vast experience and tremendous institutional knowledge of the DFD has made him an invaluable resource. Doug was nominated by his colleagues and selected as the DFD Fire Dispatcher of the year for 2018. Doug has a very strong work ethic. He gets to work early, takes few breaks, and leaves late. He expects hard work and dedication from all those who work with him. He has always been a strong advocate for the underdog. The Fire Dispatch Unit would like to congratulate Doug and thank him for his 38-years of service. We wish Doug a long, healthy, and happy retirement. We will be hosting a retirement gathering for Doug, with cake and Ice cream, at Fire Dispatch, 12025 East 45th Avenue, on Thursday, September 19th, 2019, from 1600 to 2000-hours. Please stop by and help us give Doug a proper sendoff. Thank you.
