CPAT is used as an introductory physical exam for a large number of fire departments throughout the country. For many departments, a candidate must receive a certificate prior to the application process and from an agency or department different from the one they are applying to.  The test is a comprehensive assessment of a candidates’ readiness to enter the fire service.
