Station 21 crew with Max Watson watching 12-20-2014

A letter to Station 21, B Shift on 12/20/2014

We received this via the DFD Facebook page:

If you could pass this along to the Washington Park station 21, I would appreciate it. We didn’t want to bother them while they were busy, but they ended up giving our son a really special gift today [Saturday, Dec. 20] without knowing it. The park ranger at Washington Park lost a part of his goose scaring machine in the middle of the pond today and had Engine 21 come over to retrieve it. They were telling everyone it was good practice, since no lives we in danger. We had our son, Max, over to the side watching in his wheelchair. We live in Westminster, but Washington Park is his favorite place in Denver so on nice weekends we try to get him down there for a walk. Westminster Fire Dept. has a Santa come visit Max each year since he is homebound and doesn’t get to the mall to visit Santa. This year, Max told Santa he wanted to backstage experience at Washington Park. Max had a wish granted this summer to meet one of his favorite musicians at a backstage concert, and thought if anyone could pull that off again, it would be Santa. Of course, we had no idea of how we were going to give him a backstage experience at Washington Park, and as Christmas gets closer, we were joking maybe we would stumble upon a group of carolers at the park today. What Max got was even better! We told him the water rescue practice had to be Fireman Santa’s doing, because if it was a real emergency we couldn’t watch so closely. And Fireman Santa must have known we were going to be at the park today, and sent some of his firemen friends over to show Max how they work. Max is 11, and has significant special needs. He was thrilled to see all the action, and we were relieved that we didn’t have to still come up with a backstage concert at Washington Park for a Christmas present!

I wrote a blog post about it on Max’s webpage, and hope you can share it with station 21. I’m sure they just thought we were watching on in amusement, but they were making a Christmas wish come true for our special guy.
