DEPUTY CHIEF TODD A. BOWER NAMED INTERIM CHIEF OF
THE DENVER FIRE DEPARTMENT
DENVER – The Department of Public Safety announced that Deputy Chief Todd A. Bower will serve as interim Fire Chief of the Denver Fire Department (DFD) effective today, March 9.
“Chief Bower is a proven leader who is well-respected throughout the fire service industry for his dedication to ensuring the highest level of emergency, medical and fire service delivery to the public,” said Executive Director of Public Safety, Murphy Robinson. “His extensive experience and tenure with the Department will support continuity of leadership in strategic management and a continued focus on community involvement.”
Chief Bower was hired as a Denver firefighter in 1993 and has worked his way through the ranks over the years, holding the positions of First Grade Firefighter, Engineer, Lieutenant, Captain, Assistant Fire Chief and Division Chief of Administration. He has served as DFD’s Deputy Chief since 2010, overseeing strategic planning and management of DFD’s six divisions: Operations, Fire Prevention, Technical Services, Administration and Investigations, Safety and Training, and Airport Fire and Rescue. Additionally, he led the merger and acquisition project for intergovernmental acquisition of services to the City of Englewood, the effort to obtain the highest Insurance Services Office (ISO) rating for the Department’s municipal fire protection work and the Department’s successful accreditation efforts.
“It’s been an honor to serve the people of Denver and the dedicated members of the Denver Fire Department for nearly 27 years and I am humbled to serve in an even greater way as interim Fire Chief,” Chief Bower said. “As a Colorado native with deep family roots in both the community and Department, I am committed to the continued enhancement of Department innovations, workforce diversity, and fire prevention education.”
Chief Bower is the President of the Colorado State Fire Chiefs – Metro Chief Section and served as the Chairman of the Denver Fire Fighters Local 858’s Collective Bargaining Committee for three-terms. He served two terms as Chairman of the Fire & Police Pension Association during his 18 years as a trustee, co-chaired two statewide pension plan task forces, and is a member of the International Association of Fire Chiefs and the Denver Firefighters Museum.
Committed to higher education, Chief Bower has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Colorado at Denver, an MBA in Finance and Accounting from Regis University and a J.D. degree in law from the University of Denver College of Law. He is also a graduate of the Harvard Kennedy School of Government – Senior Executives in Local Government and a licensed attorney in the state of Colorado.
In his free time, Chief Bower gives back to the community through a variety of activities including mentoring law students at DU School of Law.
